The importance of a wedding planner

We have all heard the horror stories of things going wrong at a wedding and friends and family members scramble to find a solution.  If you hired a wedding planner your friends and family could enjoy the entire night while allowing the planner to handle all of the little hiccups that come with a wedding day.

Most couples who are planning a wedding have never been married so they are planning this event blindly without the guidance of a professional.  Time and time again we see couple who fall in love with one vendor or reception space and book that without consulting a planner and then struggle with the rest of the budget to ensure they can hire everyone else they need.  Hiring a wedding planner ensures that you are allocating your budget in the right places to be able to contract every vendor you want on your list.  Online budgets are very vague and not specific to the area you are getting married in.  Wedding planners have that information so hiring them first is the most logical step.

Brides sometimes fall under the assumption that they can handle certain tasks themselves like handling the floral arrangements because it will be cheaper.  Unfortunately every time this is attempted they end up spending more money than if they would have hired a professional.  Every vendor can work within a budget, you just need to find your perfect vendor.  Wedding planners can help you with this.  When “DIY”   projects are taken on by the couple they are sometimes left for the planner to finish at the last minute or never completed at all.  Having a wedding planner on staff who knows what they are doing puts the day at ease no matter the scale of the wedding. Even if there are beautiful decor elements and photos to capture it all, if the bride and groom and their guests didn’t fully enjoy it, that’s what will be remembered.

Choosing a wedding planner can be overwhelming.  Asking for letters of recommendations or even to ask to speak to past clients is a great way to find out about their past work.  Longevity in the business is also a factor you should think about. If a planner is new to the business they may not be familiar with all of the vendors and venues in town.  A well connected planner will make your life stress free during the planning process.  One of your best resources is to ask other wedding vendors about event planners.  Referrals from vendors who work with these planners are priceless.  Check blogs like Southern Weddings Magazine for directories of vendors, this will be very helpful because these blogs are very selective on who they choose to promote.

Also keep in mind that a professional wedding planner is comfortable with their pricing and packages and can back up why they should be paid those amounts.  The phrase “You get what you pay for” should always be in the back of your mind when meeting with any vendor.

I hope that this helps in your quest to find the perfect wedding planner and I look forward to working with you.
