Finding Your Own Wedding Style
An important part of a great wedding planner is the ability to take the couple’s vision and make it a reality. Sometimes their visions are not the traditional “Emily Post” wedding customs which lead to my favorite question “Is it okay if we do this?” I always respond with “Of course it is, this is your wedding.” Brides today are allowing their creative sides to come through and they are showcasing that in the design of the wedding.
When couples are planning the day each of them must realize that the wedding day should express the couple’s interests and not just the bride or the groom no matter how much or little each one is involved. I suggest that you make a list of what you enjoy as a couple. The best weddings are the weddings that express a theme throughout the day that symbolize the couple. A great example of this is a couple who recently got married at the NC Aquarium in Fort Fisher. They choose this location because they had met scuba diving and loved being in the water.
Rules Rules Rules, throw them out the window!! There should not be any limits and restrictions when it comes to your wedding. If you still want the traditional elements you can keep those while incorporating your style. Traditional vows are a nice way to honor the institution of marriage but you are not bound by the laws of marriage to use them. Finding a nice blend of traditional elements with your own personal style are the key elements of making a memorable wedding.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES MATCH EVERYTHING!!! The last thing you want to do is have pink tables, with pink flowers with pink chairs covers and pink sashes. Some people may disagree with me but you can have too much of a good thing. Play with colors and textures. Rental companies allow you to see the linens and be able to mix and match them to see what looks fantastic together and what will never work!! Weddings should be a personal expression of the couple so throw the rule books out the window and have fun planning.
